Should I Paint my Gutters?
This is a great question that we receive from many customers. It is not something the general client would intuitively think to paint! It really depends if they were previously painted. Most of the homes in Cumming were built in the late 1990’s and likely have been painted previously, so the short answer is yes. Fortunately, it is really not a very big expense to a house, so don’t let money stop you from painting your gutters.
When gutters are installed on a home, they tend to have a baked-on color from the factory. Most are white, but many of the new 6” gutters have different colors that are meant to accent the colors of the house. It’s important to remember that the main function of gutters is to prevent water from damaging your home. While painting your gutters is important to last through the weather, we do recommend hiring a professional gutter installation company if you have a consistent water leak or flooded gutter. In fact, that is the #1 reason why we see wood rot on a house. Although painting your gutters does not seal them or provide any new functionality, it is worth it to paint them because they may wear fast than other parts of your home.We try and match the current color using Sherwin Williams color matching techniques at their stores.
If you hire a professional painting company like Five Star Painting of Cumming, it will take far less time than you think to paint your gutters. Our experienced crew has the process solidified, and execute it with ease. Our average job takes two to four days to complete. Our crew can also repair the wood behind your gutter. Depending on the height involved, this repair can run between $350-$500. Our paint crews are equipped to handle wood repair on most homes in Cumming and all throughout Forsyth County.
One of the other aspects to consider when painting your gutters is that we will use one of the premium latex paints from Sherwin Williams. Contrary to what others may say, the metal specific paint called DTM is not necessary for your horizontal or vertical gutters. We prefer to use DTM on metal roofs since they take on so much weather in North Atlanta. Most of our crews will also spray the gutters unless there is a need to manage the overspray of the gutters. Our crews use shields and can protect and cover bricks, roofs or paint sensitive areas when painting gutters.
Overall, something as simple as painting your gutters should not require too much commitment. Give us a call at Five Star Painting of Cumming, and Five Star Painting of Cumming will give you a free estimate! Your gutters will be looking brand new before you know it.
