Residential & Commercial Painting Services in Loudoun

A small room, such as a bedroom, can be finished in one day whereas a whole house can take up to a week depending on the size of the house and the areas being painted.  When you receive your estimate, we will inform you of the amount of time it will take to complete your specific job so that you can plan your schedule.

We ask that you pack up all breakables, books, and other small items that are on shelves.  Please remove all pictures and other items from the walls.  Our painters will move your furniture to the center of the room we are painting, cover it with plastic to protect it, and then return it to its original place once painting is complete.  We will also clean up the plastic and other trash once the job is done.

Yes.  Holes, scuffs and other minor damage will be repaired before painting.  Our painters will fill the area with Compound, allow it to dry, sand the surface, and cover it with primer.  Once the primer has dried, then the surface is ready for painting.

We have negotiated pricing on paint with Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore.  We pass those discounts onto our customers.  A customer can buy their own paint, but we recommend taking advantage of the high-level paint we can provide at a lower price.  Customers are still able to choose their paint sheen and color.  If color is a hurdle, we provide free color consultations with an interior designer.

The number of coats depends on the project.  If we are matching the same color and sheen, then we may be able to achieve adequate coverage with one coat.  However, if we are changing the color and/or sheen, it will require two coats.  If we are painting over a very dark color such as black or navy blue, or a very vibrant color such as neon green, it will require 3 or more coats.  We will discuss that with you during your estimate.

The type of paint finish chosen is dependent on the look you want and the wear and tear that happens in the area.  A flat finish is the least reflective of light, so this is frequently used on walls to diminish imperfections as much as possible. The draw-back is that it is also the most difficult sheen to wipe clean with a wall cleaner.  It is often more effective to touch up with the original paint.  A matte or eggshell finish has a slight sheen and so is the best of both worlds in that it minimizes wall imperfections while providing some washability.  A satin finish is typically used in areas where there is a lot of moisture such as a bathroom or kitchen.  Satin finishes hold up to the moisture levels, while being washable and providing a durable surface for surfactants that float in the air from showering, etc.  A semi-gloss finish has the highest sheen and the best washability.  It is typically used on doors, window trim and baseboards.

Primer is not usually required for re-painting a previously painted area.  The times when a primer is needed are the following:  1) new drywall, 2) dark colors require a primer to dull the color before painting the new color, 3) neon/very bright colors require a primer to dull the color before painting the new color, 4) walls that require extensive repairs or resurfacing, 5) after the removal of wallpaper.

Especially in closed areas without much air circulation, paint can smell for a couple of days after painting.  If you have situations such as small babies, a pregnant mother, elderly family members with health issues, or other sensitivities, please discuss this with your estimator at the time of the estimate.  We can paint with specialized, low-odor, zero-VOC, and antimicrobial coatings that improve indoor air quality such as Sherwin Wiliams Harmony paint. Benjamin Moore Eco Spec paint is certified to be asthma and allergy friendly making it ideal for occupants with chemical sensitivities.

Yes, we can work around your living routine.  If working from home and painting your office space is a concern, please let us know when the job starts and we can do your office first or save it until last – whichever works best with your schedule.  If you would like us to do your home level-by-level to allow moving things to different locations, again please let us know when we start the job.  Often, customers like to have the bedrooms done first for sleeping purposes.  We can work with those needs.  Pets are fine to stay home while we are painting, but we request that they be kept in an area away from the painting.  This ensures that pets don’t accidentally spill paint, walk in paint, eat paint, or damage an area that was just painted.

At Five Star Painting, we take great care to protect your home as if it was our own.  We completely cover floors, wall to wall, with plastic and tape it down.  All furniture and light fixtures are covered with plastic sheeting, as well as counter tops, cabinets, stair railings, etc.  Once your job is complete, we remove the coverings and dispose of them in the trash.

At Five Star Painting, we use top-of-the-line paints to assure the best outcome possible.  Sherwin Williams Duration lasts up to 10 years or more.  It is resistant to stains and frequent cleaning, as well as wear and tear.  Benjamin Moore Regal Select interior paint typically lasts 8-10 years.  It is formulated for high-traffic areas, has excellent washability, and is resistant to stains and scuffs.

Interior spaces can be painted at any time of the year because of temperature control accessibility inside of the house due to heaters and air conditioning.

1. Do you offer color consultations?

Yes!  Color is a hurdle for most people when contemplating painting their interior.  They want the outcome to warrant the expense.  At Five Star Painting we want to insure a five-star-quality outcome, so we offer free color consultations with an interior designer.  She will look at your furniture, floor coverings, counter tops, etc. and recommend colors that will not only work in one room, but work with the flow of your entire house.

Yes, we offer a limited 2-year warranty on peeling and blistering of paint.

It is our goal to ensure that there is no damage during your project.  However, if anything were to happen, we are fully insured to cover any damage to your home.  We are also covered in the event one of our painters was injured during work.  The medical expenses will not be your responsibility.  Checking for insurance coverage is an important question to ask any contractor doing work in your home.  You can ask for a copy of the policy for your records.
